Leighton Meester have following Michelle Williams? Classification of the CW and WB stars movie careers

Parameter name: request

What do Leighton Meester, Katherine Heigl, Kristen Bell, Katie Holmes and Zac Efron all have in common (other than constant stalking by the paparazzi)? They all started out on shows on The CW, or, in pre-CW days, the WB or UPN.

With 'Gossip Girl''s Meester hitting theaters this weekend in 'The Roommate,' this seems as good an occasion as any to review how other stars of The CW, et al, have fared on the big screen, if they made it that far. Some stars are bouncing back to TV, while others never really left. (We love ya, David Boreanaz, but not even die-hard fans who campaigned to save 'Angel' shelled out to see you in 'Valentine.')

15. Alexis Bledel *
'Gilmore Girls' 2000
2007
She's certainly not a big marquee name, but Bledel has been a steady big-screen presence. During 'Gilmore Girls,' she found time to appear in 'Sin City,' 'The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants,' 'Bride and Prejudice' and 'Tuck Everlasting.' The future is only looking brighter for her with roles in Robert Redford's 'The Conspirator,' the chick assassin flick 'Violet and Daisy' and the ensemble comedy 'Girl Walks Into a Bar.'

14. Leslie Bibb *
'Popular' 1999
2001
Bibb has yet to headline a film, but she's supported some big names. She was bumped off by Gerard Butler in 'Law Abiding Citizen,' slept with Robert Downey Jr. in 'Iron Man' and married Will Ferrell in 'Talladega Nights.' Coming up, the comedy 'Zookeeper' and she'll team up again with Downey Jr. in the all-star superhero epic 'The Avengers.' Her first big movie, by the way, was 'The Skulls,' with fellow WB star Joshua Jackson.
13. James Van Der Beek *
'Dawson's Creek' 19982003
A quick perusal of his recent film credits turns up none that we remember playing at our local multiplex. And 2002's 'The Rules of Attraction' probably proved more of a launching point for 'Vampire Diaries' star Ian Somerhalder, thanks to his dancing-in-his-underwear scene. 'Varsity Blues' was a hit, but many of Van Der Beek's post-Dawson films, like the long-in-limbo 'Texas Rangers,' have gone straight to DVD.

12. Joshua Jackson *
'Dawson's Creek' 1998
2003
It took a while for us to think of Jackson as anyone other than Pacey; now we're loving him so much as Peter on 'Fringe' that we've nearly forgotten that he's had a solid movie career long before either show. Remember him in 'The Mighty Ducks' movies, not to mention 'Scream 2,' 'Apt Pupil,' 'Urban Legend' and 'Cruel Intentions?' And he got top billing for 'The Skulls' (2000) and 'Shutter' (2008).

11. Blake Lively
'Gossip Girl' 2007
2011
Box office total (5): $211,990,148/ Average: $42,398,030
Lively's not doing too badly: She earned great marks for her turn as a party girl in 'The Town,' and she plays 'Green Lantern''s love interest later this summer. And, pre-'Gossip Girl,' she'd already scored a big-screen ensemble hit with 'The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.'

10. Amanda Peet
'Jack and Jill' 1999
2001
Box office total (23): $723,341,438/Average: $31,449,628
Wow, we kind of forgot Peet used to be on the WB. These days, we think of her more for her roles in '2012,' 'Something's Gotta Give,' 'The Whole Nine Yards' and 'Igby Goes Down.' She also played Matt Damon's wife in 'Syriana,' worked with Woody Allen in 'Melinda and Melinda' and made the seemingly obligatory rom-com opposite Ashton Kutcher ('A Lot Like Love.')

9. Scott Speedman *
'Felicity' 19982002
He's been irresistible to women in both TV and the movies: We'd probably switch colleges and put up with some werewolf activity if we thought we stood a chance with him. Speedman's big-screen roles, apart from the 'Underworld' series, haven't made a huge splash, but we loved the super-scary 'The Strangers' and his unexpected appearance in last year's acclaimed indie 'Barney's Version.'

8. Keri Russell *
'Felicity' 19982002
We don't understand why Russell's charming girl-next-door persona didn't immediately result in film after film like 2007's sweet 'Waitress.' She's definitely been busy (even before 'Felicity,' she was in 'Honey, I Blew Up the Kid'), with 'Mission: Impossible III' and 'August Rush,' but Russell could easily have been the next Reese Witherspoon. Instead, she's playing "the wife" in movies like 'Extraordinary Measures.' What gives, Hollywood?

7. Sarah Michelle Gellar
'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' 19972003
Box office total (13): $627,388,241/Average: $48,260,634
Gellar's big-screen career looked promising: She starred in 'Cruel Intentions' and 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' while still on TV. But after 'Buffy,' she only scored hits with 'The Grudge' and those awful 'Scooby Doo' movies. 'Southland Tales' made a measly $275,380 at the box office, which was still better than 2002's 'Harvard Man' ($56,653 total). So we're happy to hear that she's headed back to TV as troubled twins in 'Ringer.' (You do know she started off on 'All My Children,' right?)

6. Kristen Bell
'Veronica Mars' 20042007
Box office total (8): $291,028,541/Average: $36,378,568
Tart-tongued Veronica was a great start for Bell, whose entry into the big leagues was with the prerequisite crappy horror film (2006's 'Pulse'), followed by a breakout comedy ('Forgetting Sarah Marshall'), and then some not-so-great movies ('When in Rome,' 'Couples Retreat') that people nevertheless still went to see. We await her turn in 'Scream 4,' a series -- might we point out -- created by Kevin Williamson, who also created WB mainstay 'Dawson's Creek.' She'll also be returning to TV soon, having just lined up the Showtime series 'House of Lies.'

5. Jessica Biel
'7th Heaven' 19962006
Box office total (17): $640,192,371/Average: $37,658,375
Unlike, say, Jessica Alba, Biel is one of those "hot" actresses who (sometimes) actually makes movies we want to see. She paid her dues in 'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre,' was impressively buff in 'Blade: Trinity,' shared the screen with Oscar-nominee Edward Norton in 'The Illusionist' and brought Bradley Cooper to his knees in 'The A-Team.' Sure, those weren't all so great, but we're looking forward to her starring opposite Jake Gyllenhaal in David O. Russell's 'Nailed.'

4. Zac Efron
'Summerland' 20042005
Box office total (5): $305,950,882/Average: $61,190,176
This short-lived WB series is merely a blip compared to 'High School Musical,' which launched him into the stratosphere and the cover of every 'Tiger Beat.' Once the third HSM film went to theaters, Efron never looked back: He took a supporting part in 'Hairspray,' wisely turned down another musical (the 'Footloose' remake) and won over non-HSM fans with '17 Again.' He makes his bid for dramatic cred with the upcoming military drama 'The Lucky One.' (The less said about 'Charlie St. Cloud,' the better.)

3. Katie Holmes
'Dawson's Creek' 19982003
Box office total (11): $578,627,761/Average: $26,359,617
For a moment, let's forget for about her husband, what her daughter's wearing and the bad buzz she got at this year's Sundance. Holmes has had a pretty impressive film career, from cool indies like 'Go' and 'Pieces of April,' to working with Oscar-winning directors ('Wonder Boys,' 'The Ice Storm') and, of course, 'Batman Begins.' Sure, Holmes was replaced in 'The Dark Knight' and hasn't had a film hit since becoming Mrs. Cruise, but she has a number of projects in the pipeline, including 'Jack and Jill,' with Adam Sandler, and 'The Son of No One,' with Al Pacino.

2. Katherine Heigl
'Roswell' 19992002
Box office total (15): $395,394,249/Average: $52,602,524
Before 'Grey's Anatomy,' Heigl was just another alien stranded in New Mexico on this WB series. And before that, she already had a busy film career ('Bride of Chucky') so getting back on the big screen was a no-brainer. She hit the big time with 'Knocked Up,' and soon she was everywhere. Her movies ('Killers,' 'The Ugly Truth') have kind of sucked, but we don't see her returning to TV anytime soon.

1. Michelle Williams
'Dawson's Creek' 1998-2003
Box office total: (20) $389,452,637 /Average: $19,472,632
Since leaving "the Creek," Williams has opted for low-budget indies like 'I'm Not There' and 'The Station Agent,' slowly building her credibility as an actress. She landed her first Oscar nomination for 'Brokeback Mountain' and is currently nominated for 'Blue Valentine.' The closest thing to a popcorn movie she's ever done is last year's 'Shutter Island,' but since it was with Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio, we'd say she's yet to sell out. The Academy took a while to invite her to join after her first nomination, but if there was any industry bias against her for starting out on TV, it seems to be a thing of the past.

Who's who "of the X-Men: first class Cast

Last night, the first official trailer for the fifth X-Men film "X-Men: first class" was published online, and we know what you're thinking: who's who in the world are all these people? This prequel set in the 1960s, a lot of things are different. Does Wolverine! Not Storm! Professor x is my hair?

Well, everything you need to know (from familiar faces, new mutant!) the main cast and more after the jump, we got you!

(Click to find out who's who "of the X-Men: first class)

From left to right: Magneto, Moira McTaggert, Emma Frost, Azazel, Beast, Havok, Angel, Mystique, Professor x

Magneto(Michael fassbender)
Erik Lensherr Magnus is a Holocaust survivor and self styled "the Master of magnetism." When the X-Men movies fans know him, to compel the world sovereignty over the Supervillain, he was once simply in order to protect his man run. First class starts with Magneto and Charles Xavier, when both were much younger. They work together to determine a way to enable them to protect the mutant and the peaceful humanity. But if Xavier considers peaceful assimilation, Magneto, mutant, in its sole discretion, deems that are human and should be rewarded accordingly.

Moira MacTaggert(Rose byrne)
Shoot lasers out of your eyes or to read the minds of the ability to have a large, but it is sometimes the only truly intelligent. This is true, Moira MacTaggert, very talented geneticist and Charles Xavier friend. He blazed trails in the area, offering a mutant genetics of valuable information on Xavier and the entire world. He also pushed to his school for the Gifted, by Xavier young and helped even the design of Cerebro, Xavier's mutant monitoring device. Emma Frost ( January Jones)
Emma Frost was born in Boston, Massachusetts, and is the old money exists in the movies, cruel, arrogant sneering rich girl who you thought you just type. He is richer than you, he or she thinks she is smarter than you and he uses his telepathic powers to insure that all he says is true. He is a provocative, highly effective, able to disconnect some of the laws of his way to get and we mention arrogant? Azazel ( Jason Flemyng)
Azazel is a story that almost every X-Men fan the asterisk does not happen it pretends that the sheer number. Keep a long story, which is short, Azazel is a nightmare, the X-Men 2, super cool blue teleporter father and is real, the Biblical Devil. You can see, the demons had just ancient mutant and the Angels were the mutant. Mutant mutant Angel and the devil and the devil had fought for the mutant banished to another dimension. You may be able to call it "hell." Regardless of you we got our Azazel's story is completely different in the movie, the land Crossed fingers. Beast (Nicholas hoult)
Imagine that, incredibly intelligent. You can do complex mathematics in your head, look at the chemical formula and determine exactly what it does and cobble together an incredible machine to serve the intended purpose, you will need. On top of that, you have very dry, witty sense of humor. Imagine now if all this was, and the force was to be the blue mutant, furry, and non-human primate, such as agile, so everyone assumes that you have a big, dumb bruiser. Hank McCoy, better known as the Beast's plight is, but he is not a stranger to the conclusion of the Lemonade out of lemons. He is one of the founding members shall subscribe their shares of X-Men, as well as a highly respected scientist and brawler. (Lucas Till) Havok
Alex "havok" Summers is Scott "Cyclops" Summers, brother. His older siblings, he left a huge shoes to fill, and Havok has never fully successful, at least in my mind to measure. Despite having a inferiority complex Havok is more than likely to discipline yourself. He is the author of the fire of the Sun power energy blasts at will and to try to find his brother, he is a member of the shadow, as well as a powerful leader and more outgoing than Scott. Angel (tennis)
Click the character was X-Men Angel (ANGEL super rich), founding member, even if this Angel is a little different. Angel Salvadore and feathered wings, on the other hand, would expect a character named "Angel" is a sunny disposition, insect wings, and is a little attitude. He does not ask for is a mutant, and he did not ask the father, who hates her. He did not fit very Xavier's school, but he eventually became her way of thinking. He is still pretty to spend time with her boyfriend than to fight the evil mutant, though. Mystique ( Jennifer Lawrence)
Mystique, aka Raven Darkholme has been alive for decades. His real age is unknown, but he has at least 100 years old. During the last century, he has made a living playing both sides against each other. Mystique lives and breathes on unfair and his powers of shape shifting to allow his organization suodattuvat and throw away the doubts. The phrases "good guy" or "bad guy" do not use a real Mystique; He is a member of his or her own side, which will lead to good deeds and terrible ones. Charles Xavier (James mcavoy)
Before he had a secret first and foremost a paramilitary force to strike and the mutant, Xavier's school for Gifted youngsters, Charles Xavier SD was just a young man and the dream of a telepathic powers inter-species in harmony. He was driven to begin recruiting others to the cause of her mutant, when he realized that it was a mutant and human beings, which does not have an interest in such harmony. "Alice in Wonderland ' 60th anniversary Blu-ray review: great bullshit

Most probably you won't find that many people who treated the 1951 "Alice in Wonderland" among the best efforts of the Studio's "Golden age." this is not to say that it is a bad movie (definitely not), but between the old school Classics (like "snow white", "Sleeping Beauty" and "Cinderella") "Alice" is revealed as wildly plotless and anarhisticni piece of povestvovania-which means to fit source material to Lewis Carroll tea--it is beautiful to look (and listen), but seems to lack the essential "heart" many of the greats Disney with peak.

As such, "Alice in Wonderland (1951) is still true-blue classic in the Pantheon of Disney feature animation and the Studio is done right from the movie, by providing a fantastic two-disc" 60th Anniversary Edition ' blu-ray. The film never looked lovelier, which help buff to appreciate what the animation is so great about the movie, and this is the view of it.

Undoubtedly you are familiar, Carol "Alice in Wonderland" is about a young girl who tumbles into the rabbit hole and found all kinds of strange creatures in its long Trek back to reality. This is, indeed, and it is this loosy-goosey "nonsense" style, a Karoll such a hit in his day. Mature all varieties (psychologists, literary experts, directors) have tried to be decrypted weirdness of the "Wonderland", but that is missing the point: children, nonsensical adventures are food for the soul.

So let's just skip the pointless plot synopses and thematic interpretation of "Alice in Wonderland" and just focus on the things you need to know:

1. is the old-style classic Disney Animation ... the blu-ray. If you don't know what that looks like this is a shame.

2. The centerpiece (entitled ' through the Keyhole: companion guide to Wonderland ") is an absolute joy. Half and half a video comment documents, this fantastic piece of film together with a Karoll offers writer, Disney historians and contemporary filmmakers. Great for children and even better for adults, it offers tons of historical perspectives of Lewis Carroll and Walt Disney and is packed with Great little Visual touches and delicious trivial tidbits. (For less then 10 minutes I learned colorful origin of phrases such as "March Hare," "cat" and "mad as a Hatter.") Simply put, Disney should make one of these ladders pieces for each one of their classic films.

3. other treats include some archive footage of the sequence of "handle for Alice and the door", some early pencil tests on the title character, 1959 TV intro movie and slightly diverting "paint flowers" puzzle game for the kiddies. Oh, and any additional material from previous Special Edition DVD (standard) has been included here: featurettes, interviews, deleted song (!), trailers, TV spots, old Mickey Mouse Cartoon and more.

4 "Sneak peeks" section informs us that "Bambi" next Disney classic to get swanky blu-ray treatment. This exemption drive shelves on 1 March, and if it is similar to "Alice" package, well, that's why we upgraded to blu-ray in the first place.

5. Final Note to my fellow Disney junkies; They feature length movies that were released on blu-ray (so far):

1. snow white and the seven dwarfs
2. Pinocchio
3. Fantasia
4. Bambi (3/1)
5. Alice in Wonderland (2/1)
6. sleeping beauty
7. Beauty and the beast
8. Fantasia 2000.
9. Chicken little
10. meet the Robinsons
11. Bolt
12 Princess and the frog
13. Tangled (3/29)

Word is that several of these are "back in the Vault" this April, so that one is now, if you still want one. And if full amazing Pixar video collection blu-ray is what you want, you will be happy to know that "The Incredibles" is coming on April 12. Then all will still need to be "Finding Nemo."

(Note: images not are pictures of the screen.)

Minka Kelly "roommate", "" Charlie's Angels "and who wish to play superhero guy (woman, anyone?)

There are many reasons to love Minka Kelly, who is currently starring in the psycho-thriller "the roommate." Neither one of these reasons must be made with global sexy title of magazine for men, it has appointed or recent hearing are produced in accordance with the gossipmonger and.

They are more along the lines of how Gracious she is their fearless, thrill seeking behavior and ambition of its course. Above all, however, we Adore a wonderful young star because it can act--its role separation of Lyla on NBC "lights for the night of Friday" was once considered as "heartbreaking" from the New York Times.

We recently spoke with Kelly "roommate," in which she played one defined by Oppenheimer obsessed friend (Leighton Meester). During the chat, it reveals that crazy moments in the film, which look for the legendary mega-star, she would love to work with what role it wishes to play (listen up, wonder woman fans), her idea of the perfect Valentine's day and several other surprising and interesting facts about yourself.

Moviefone: How has your role as Sarah in "roommate" different from what you have done in the past?
Minka Kelly: well, you know, my hero in "Friday night lights" is a very young--I was playing 17-year-old in high school. Now I'm in college and this character [Sarah], she believes in the best in people. It is optimistic girl, but she is certainly no weakling. So that when it finally fully realized she was in danger and that her roommate, Rebecca, chemical imbalance, she knows she must fight for its protection.

Are you all crazy roommate stories?
You do not need any roommate horror stories, but there are people, I know that to them and they seem to find the movie very relatable.

What moment in the movie will people be talking about when you leave the theater?
Know of a few people know that I have seen it, there are several times, actually. Moments, they really love when I'm struggling with whether it is [Rebecca] strange or what his deal is, because it is putting me to the things he loves a little strange. And I don't want to judge it, but you can see in my face, that I'm a little perplexed by the fact that it is in these things, so I think those are funny moments. I think that would be really fun are when Leighton [Rebecca] is its transition into a crazy person in the end. And then my favorite part, which is at the end of the movie is when we have a big fight scene.

There are participants involved or stunt you and Leighton has it?
[Laughs] well, we had stunt coordinators, which we learn everything and showed us how to make without the parties, but we are all from our own stunts. We wanted each shot is us. And so it was grueling, and at the end of it I had bruises up and down my legs. It was really, really fun--a very physical and exhausting. But we loved every second of it.

Well, what you studied in preparation for the stage that the fight will be useful for your exciting role in the new "Charlie's Angels" TV show, don't you think?
Perhaps this! [Laughs] I am so excited about this.

You begin to feel the pressure, as the "Charlie's Angels"?
Defined the iconic show and it will be difficult to follow, but I'm just so excited and honored to have the opportunity to be part of it all. I don't know how my role yet, so you don't have to give much, but I'm very excited.

What will be the perfect Valentine's day date?
I think Diane is not always for one man and one woman. So I think a lot of times, what is even more specifically, when you receive your best girlfriends, sit around and watch old Tv seasons of "sex and the city." Only pork for junk food and drink some wine chocolote, and celebrate each other.

What is your favorite movie to watch when you have snow?
"Purple rain."

"Engineer" review: make sure that you will get a first assessment

Hitman movies are dime a dozen, but the "mechanic" must have a value of nickel. Too smart to half of Simon West remake of the 1972 film with the same name highlights cool kicks over the character development and set of models of substance. To mention this approach inevitably will appeal to some viewers, but even with Ben Foster, this works for himself and co-star Jason Statham, "engineer" is too torn between feeling of dramatic integrity and desire to meet audiences bloodlust to fully satisfy the person.

Statham plays Arthur Bishop, an experienced, ice-cold assassin whose trademark is invisibility. When the Bishop is a task to his long-time mentor and only friend, Harry Mckenna (Donald Sutherland), he graduated from the job with Effortless efficiency. Soon after, the son of Harry Steve (Foster) is displayed look for someone to blame and Bishop hides the truth, as a young man in his right flank as his protege.

Since the two are increasingly ambitious projects, Steve seems more interested in testing the boundaries of the brutality of the performance objectives with one and the same cool detachment, Bishop. But as Steve grow approaching opening of the truth of his mentor, the Bishop was forced to decide whether to come clean or care for Steve in the same way he is his father.

To say that Jason Statham plays the character before it would be an understatement, but the movie looks so disinterested as it gives all compelling reasons to make that almost is not his own. From the first frame almost to the last, "engineer officer" shall have the same story, countless other movies for the murderers of his terms with immorality murders: Statham is "best"-killer that can hide in the pool, while its target take in the Middle, kill man in water and then to make a clean escape without someone knowing has ever been there. The actual logistics of pulling off a scenario, it may be interesting, but the film is more interested in shows how its sceptics well-decorated architectural Marvel of the House reflects the clarity of its purpose and naturally, the emptiness of his soul.

When all the Statham frigid detachment, Foster is the unfettered, febrile and as suggested above, he is doing the work that the film only needs and certainly does not deserve. Steve is the most troubled, and appears to punish ourselves at least as much as its purpose, where he took a new job, but under Foster coiled the filament wound tightly lamps physicality, there is simply a villainous cruelty, but real, resonant pain; Notwithstanding his sociopathic behaviour he became a character with whom we sympathize. What is unfortunately, however, it is necessary to film to create enemies, which are more foul and unforgiveable of Statham character; and after two square against pedophile hit man, corrupt televangelist and remorseless, string pulling a company man, Steve more or less is forced to become the next foe in the hierarchy of the movie "boys are worse than Bishop."

It's easy to look at the showdowns in the movie and see the only action set pieces, but in at least one case, the "victim" is just another killer, whose "villainy" took the form of homosexuality; There is the lip service paid to the fact that he "likes boys ' give trysts with people who have reached the age of majority, but anyone who might mistake Foster (30) for younger than 18 need Cataract Surgery, and Steve, who has s?blaznitelnata purpose, rather than in any other way. For anyone thinking this kind of moral Compass creates really interviews troubling dollars for the movie as a whole: it is fair, the son of the murdered person to try to avenge his father? I would say yes, but the movie is less secure and, therefore, abandoned or ignores the deeper implications of the conflict between Steve and Bishop (not to mention the re-awakening during the rest of the story of the Bishop and emotional) to give us an explosive, but otherwise empty venue.

However, it is not particularly difficult to ignore these comments, especially if your own brand of desire-Inositelat comes in the form of cool shootouts, vintage cars and style of life where prostitutes look like supermodels and not so secretly want to do their jobs for free ... just because you're such a Badass. In fact, the best word used to describe the film was "stupid" because this is exactly what it is – gun actress and instant gratification, not ambitions, serious enough to seek a closer inspection of the values or ideas.

But the annoying thing is that the "mechanic" really only gets really interesting when things begin to go wrong for his characters, so make a choice of things to work right in the end undermines even the cost of potential entertainment. As such, "engineer" is passable January ticket at best, but if the filmmakers were really trying to make the original light modern scanning, best, have made is to thrill ride, running on empty tanks.
